The Columbus McKinnon Group has a 141 year history of manufacturing and supplying reliable and safe lifting products. In 1877 Thomas Weston, an employee of Yale, invented the Weston Screw Load Brake and Yale & Towne Manufacturing Co. designed the first spur-geared hand chain hoist incorporating this brake. Today, the economical Weston-type brake is used worldwide for almost all manual hoists and many electric hoists because of its simple, easy-to-maintain design. Many more unique, innovative and useful products have been developed since then, always with a view to enhancing safety and ease of use. This process continues.
